What's the aim?
To design an item that connects and sparks conversation with design agencies in and around Vancouver.
Looking to create a conversation starter and memorable package that wouldn’t just be tossed away, I thought to tap into the nostalgia of creative directors around the city. As a popular form of media in the 80s, and being an avid collector, I knew that the VHS tape was an iconic piece of history that spoke of a simpler time—where sharing and learning were more personal and physical, which is what I hoped the mentorship to be.
What I learned?
I found myslef enjoying working on and fine-tuning the dieline of the slip cover, carefully adjusting it to account for tight tolerances. This process allowed me to explore new materials and techniques, such as vacuum sealing, which added the final touch.
I was also excited to learn how a 3D printer operates and to work with the various software needed to bring the design to life. Working with tinkerine, and Blender. Considering the parts, labels, and the overall production process to transform the idea into reality was a challenging yet rewarding exercise that I truly fell in love with.
